What’s on its way to theaters after the 2009 holiday movie season? One of the first to open is The Book of Eli. If you haven’t seen the trailer in theaters yet, you can watch The Book of Eli online. Many are thinking of it as another version of The Road. Could they be assuming too much, though?

If you watch The Book of Eli online, it doesn’t seem too complicated to figure out. The film stars Denzel Washington as Eli, who protects the book he carries with him from harm as he travels through desolate surroundings. Gary Oldman is willing to kill him in order to get the book. Mila Kunis is…..well, you can’t really tell just by watching The Book of Eli online, but she stars as the daughter of Oldman who apparently joins sides with Washington to keep the book from Oldman’s clutches.



Detroit natives and twin brothers Albert and Allen Hughes, whose other credits include From Hell and Dead Presidents, are the directing force behind the story written by former PC Gamer editor-in-chief, Gary Whitta. What you won’t see when you watch The Book of Eli online is Whitta’s side story of the thrill in becoming a Hollywood insider overnight. You can read that at the NeoGAF gaming industry site’s forum.

If the movie is described as “post-apocalyptic”, it may be just a typical response to the look of the film itself. Only those who have never seen Mad Max would fail to see the similarities. The ravaged wasteland you see when you watch The Book of Eli online could hardly mean little else. And yes, the book you see Eli carrying shows the title Genesis, leading you to assume it’s the Bible.

Will this film follow in the footsteps of 2012 and The Road? Probably, but maybe not.. Teasers showing words such as BELIEVE, RELIGION and DELIVER fade away to say only ELI each time are certainly intriguing. Do Eli’s aviators indicate that he’s blind? Is it possible he’s not even on this planet? Should we brush up on what the name Eli means? Who exactly IS Eli, anyhow? Are we thinking too much into this?

If you can watch The Book of Eli online one time and forget about it, you’ve probably got better things to do than go to the movies. Now how can you NOT see this movie?
